Four Arsenal transfer priorities for Mikel Arteta revealed as Eberechi Eze deal next steps clear

Send Push

Mikel Arteta will be desperate to further bolster his squad before the new Premier League season gets underway. Arsenal have already forked out nearly £200m on new players this summer, but there's still plenty of work still to be done.

Andrea Berta began by signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea before finally wrapping up a deal for Martin Zubimendi. Once Thomas Partey and Jorginho had left the Emirates Stadium following the expiry of their respective contracts, the Gunners brought in Christian Nørgaard.

It wasn't long before Berta returned to Stamford Bridge, prising Noni Madueke from the west Londoners. Eager to reinforce Arteta's backline, with Gabriel Magalhães, Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber nursing injuries, Arsenal signed Cristian Mosquera from Valencia.

A few days later, the Gunners finally got their hands on a new striker, bringing in Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting. Berta has added lots of new faces to the squad this summer, but there's still room for improvement.

So, with that being said, football.london looks at at four deals that Arsenal need to wrap up before the new Premier League season gets underway.

Arsenal sign Eze and Ligue 1 youngster

Arsenal should do whatever it takes to sign Eberechi Eze before they lock horns with Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday, August 17. The Crystal Palace star has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium for a while now, and it's about time that Berta secures his signature.

Eze would be a significant upgrade on Gabriel Martinelli, providing Arteta's side with a brilliant option on the left. Receiving the ball in wide areas and driving in-field, the England international can combine with teammates, create key chances for Gyokeres and make space for an overlapping full-back.

football.london understands that Arsenal are keen to offload a few players before turning their attention to Eze. Arteta is believed to be a big fan of the 27-year-old attacking midfielder, whose contract at Selhurst Park expires in June 2027.

It's understood that Eze is very keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium, and he's thought to have prioritised the Gunners over other potential suitors this summer. Palace want at least £35m up front in any deal for the Englishman.

Arsenal should also look to bring in Jeremy Jacquet before the transfer window slams shut – even if they end up sending him back to Stade Rennais on loan. The 20-year-old centre-half enjoyed a promising debut season in the French top-flight last term, establishing himself as a regular in Habib Beye's side.

Jacquet spent the first half of the campaign on loan at Clermont Foot 63 in Ligue 2, keeping three clean sheets in 17 games. The Frenchman, whose contract at Roazhon Park expires in June 2029, was recalled by Stade Rennais in January, and he was thrown straight into the starting lineup.

He won three of his first four games in the French outfit's backline, beating Saint-Étienne, Stade Reims and Montpellier. With Gabriel, Calafiori and Timber recently nursing knocks, Jacquet could be a good option – even if he's brought in as a precaution and sent back to Stade Rennais on loan.

Speaking to reporters following Arsenal's defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in Hong Kong last week, Arteta provided a promising injury update on the aforementioned trio.

On whether Gabriel, Calafiori and Timber will be available for the opening weekend of the new Premier League season, the Gunners boss said: "They’ve been involved in the last few days, so Gabriel, Calafoiri, Timber, the three of them will be available."

Berta offloads forgotten Arsenal midfielder

Arsenal have forked nearly £200m on new players this summer, so it's about time that Berta starts balancing the books. The Gunners need to offload a few players before the transfer window slams shut, and the first player out of the door should be Fabio Vieira.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who Arsenal signed from Porto for £34m in June 2022, has flopped at the Emirates Stadium. After two years on the bench, struggling to force himself into Arteta's starting lineup, he returned to the Portuguese giants on loan.

Now, Vieira looks set to leave for good. According to The Athletic, VfB Stuttgart are currently working on a deal to sign the attacking midfielder, having recently approached Arsenal about a potential deal.

Arsenal part ways with Zinchenko

The Gunners should also part ways with Oleksandr Zinchenko. With Myles Lewis-Skelly, Calafiori, Timber and even Jakub Kiwior capable of playing at left-back, it's difficult to see how the Ukrainian gets any minutes in Arteta's side this season.

Zinchenko has recently entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium, so Arsenal should explore the mutual termination of his contract. The 28-year-old defender will have the freedom to find a new club, while the north Londoners get his wages off the books – a win-win for both parties.
