IPL 2025: Key batter ruled out, SRH announces replacement player

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have signed Vidarbha allrounder Harsh Dubey as an injury replacement for Smaran Ravichandran for the remainder of IPL 2025. Dubey joins the squad for INR 30 lakh. 

 

Smaran, who was himself a for Australian spinner Adam Zampa, was ruled out due to an undisclosed injury. The Karnataka batter had impressed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with 433 runs in seven innings, including a match-winning 101 in the final. However, he didn’t get a chance to feature in SRH’s playing XI before being sidelined.

 

Dubey is seen as a developing prospect with the ability to contribute with both bat and ball.

Who is Harsh Dubey?

 

Harsh Dubey is a promising left-arm spinner and lower-order batter from Vidarbha, who has made steady progress across formats in Indian domestic cricket. 

 

 

The 22-year-old has already played 16 T20s, 20 List A games, and 18 first-class matches, grabbing 127 wickets and 941 runs in total.

 

Dubey made his List A debut in 2021 and entered the T20 scene later that year. While his white-ball numbers are still evolving, especially in T20s, where he has struggled to make a mark. However, his control and ability to bowl long spells have made him a vital asset in first-class cricket.

Notably, in just 18 red-ball games, he has picked up 97 wickets at an economy of 2.87, along with seven half-centuries.

 

His Ranji debut was memorable too, where he scored a fifty in his maiden innings against Jammu and Kashmir. Dubey made heads turn during the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy, where he was named Player of the Series after powering Vidarbha to the title. He scored 476 runs and took a staggering 69 wickets.

 

Meanwhile, SRH are currently in the 9th spot in the points table with three wins from ten matches.
