This year’s Durga Puja hit a bittersweet note for Kajol. Usually, all smiles and festive vibes at the pandal, the actor confessed that 2025 brought a heavy heart along with the celebrations. Between three family losses in just one year, stepping into the familiar, colourful pandal was both comforting and gut-wrenching. Sharing candid snaps with her sister Tanishaa Mukerji and cousins Rani and Ayan Mukerji, Kajol opened up about the deep emotions behind the festivities.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Kajol described the unveiling at the pandal as an emotional moment. After a year marked by multiple family losses, stepping onto the pandal felt both precious and incredibly difficult. Her sister Tanishaa told IANS that the experience was a mix of sadness and excitement. With three family members passing away this year, including their beloved Debu Kaka, who used to organise Durga Puja annually, carrying forward his dream was emotional but felt like the right thing to do.
The family lost veteran actor and filmmaker Deb Mukherjee, Ayan Mukerji’s father and Kajol’s uncle, in March 2025 at 83. Another uncle, filmmaker Rono Mukherjee, passed away in May 2025. Despite these personal losses, the family celebrated the festival, honouring their late loved ones’ legacy with warmth and togetherness.
