The Indian captain was thrilled to have a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. He got emotional while remembering his journey and called the move an unreal feeling. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had recently decided to name a stand after Rohit during the Annual General Meeting. Rohit hails from Mumbai and has played many memorable innings at this stadium.

MCA had taken the decision

MCA had announced to name a stand after Rohit, former captain Ajit Wadekar, and former BCCI President and ICC Chairman Sharad Pawar. Level three of the Divecha Pavilion at the Wankhede Stadium will be named after Rohit. India will win the T20 World Cup 2024 and Champions Trophy 2025 under Rohit's captaincy.

Rohit recalls the early days.

Rohit said, that when one starts playing cricket, one does not dream of such things. I still remember the days when I used to stand outside the Wankhede Stadium to watch the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team practice. I am talking about 2004 or maybe 2003. We used to complete our Under-14, and Under-16 training at Azad Maidan. I used to cross the railway track with some of my friends to catch a glimpse of some of the Ranji Trophy cricketers.

I know how difficult it was to get inside the Wankhede Stadium at that time. Even now, no strangers will be allowed inside the stadium, but those were good days too. Now, sitting and thinking that there is going to be a stadium stand named after me is a surreal feeling. This is something I never thought of and I will always be grateful for this huge honour in my life.
