'No One Will Be Spared': Punjab Sarpanch's Daughter Arrested With 8gm Heroin After Drug Video Goes Viral

Kartarpur: A woman allegedly linked to drug peddling was arrested in Punjab’s Kartarpur after a video showing her weighing a white powdery substance surfaced online. The accused, identified as Paramjit Kaur alias Pammo, is the daughter of Naharpur village Sarpanch, Ranjit Kaur. Her arrest comes amid the state’s intensified crackdown on narcotics under the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign.

Kaur was apprehended at a police checkpoint on Tuesday, May 20, with 18 grams of heroin in her possession. According to a report by The Tribune, Kartarpur Station House Officer (SHO) Ramandeep Singh said, “She was initially found carrying 3 grams of heroin at the naka. A subsequent search led to the recovery of an additional 15 grams.”

Caught with 18 gm Heroin, Video Sparked Arrest

The viral video, which contributed to her arrest, shows a woman, reportedly Kaur, handling an electronic weighing scale and a small bag of white powder. A man stands beside her in a seemingly deferential posture. SHO Singh confirmed, “The woman in the video is indeed Paramjit Kaur, but the clip is from an earlier time, as she is seen wearing woolens.”

Kaur already has three FIRs against her, one of which was also filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act back in March 2022.

A case under Sections 21 and 61 of the NDPS Act has been registered against Kaur at Kartarpur police station. She is expected to be produced in court on Wednesday, May 21.

Speaking on the broader effort, Jalandhar Rural SSP Harvinder Singh Virk said, as quoted by The Tribune, “The war against drugs is being pursued rigorously under the Yudh Nasheyan Virudh campaign. No one involved regardless of political or familial background will be spared.” He added that investigations are ongoing to determine if others in her circle were involved in the drug trade.
