For years I have been using razors to shave and it sometimes left me with red, itchy skin but last year, I invested in a smart hair removal device that gives me painless smooth skin. The Braun Skin i·Expert Smart IPL is now on Amazon Prime Day sale with a whopping discount of 56%, reducing the price from £899.99 to £399.99.
The app-equipped IPL is one of the easiest hair removal methods I've tried, it reacts to my skin in real time and tells me which area I've already covered in order to show me the progress in a session. Each "zap" is quick and painless while I get ready for a hair-free summer.
I was using it mainly on my armpits, lower arms and lower legs. Like laser, IPL (Intense Pulse Light) offers permanent reduction in hair regrowth for long lasting smooth skin but differently from laser, I pay only once and can touch up anytimeif needed. To start with, the Smart SkinProtect Sensor will detect the skin tone and auto-adjust the right power on the skin.

The test result showed I have "medium light skin tone" and before the start of a treatment, it was required to do a flash test to see how my skin responded. The flash was definitely stronger than I thought and I felt a warm sensation as it zapped on my skin. By choosing the session (whether it's lower legs, arms or face), it tells me how long a session roughly lasts and which head attachment I should use.
Meanwhile there are other brands offering app-equipped hair removal devices such as Philips Lumea 9900 Series with its SenseIQ and SkinAI technology. It's been reduced from £599.99 to £407.99 with a discount of 32% on Amazon.
CurrentBody's Laser Hair Removal Device, £579.99, is a pistol-grip tool similar to the size of a hair dryer. Its Ice Cooling Technology keeps skin at a low temperature for a painless laser hair removal experience when treating even the most sensitive areas.
The Braun Skin i·Expert suggested switching on "gliding mode" for underarms, lower arms and lower legs and as I put the device on, it tracked my progress and showed me the percentage as the IPL was performing. I found this feature very useful, especially when I was doing my lower legs session.
When the automatic flash power adaptation lights up in white, it means the device is ready and safe to use when passing it over your skin. The IPL won't emit a flash if the light turns red.
An expert from Braun's Research and Development team told me: "Our Braun IPL devices have been built with your safety in mind and they are safe for home hair removal. The experience will differ from person to person. We recommend all users closely follow the recommended device use guidance – including removing all hair in the treatment area to avoid discomfort."
After completing my treatment, I left my IPL on the side and only reached for it a few months ago for maintenance. I found it most efficient on my arms and legs and I barely found any hair a year on while I spotted hair regrowth on my armpits quicker after nine months.
One thing that shoppers should bear in mind is the track of progress as the app requires you to do a weekly treatment and there have been issues for me to connect the IPL to the phone. Some customers also experienced the same thing and said they "can't be bothered" and returned the device.
The Braun Skin i·Expert Smart IPL is now 56% off its original price, slashing from £899.99 to £399.99 and it includes a Venus razor, a travel pouch and three replacement heads. Elsewhere at Boots, it's retailing at £430 with two replacement heads. Those interested to sign up to free Amazon Prime trial and unlock the discount canclick here.
