Storm Amy tracker hour-by-hour forecast as weather maps turn horrifying red for 95mph wind

A grim tracker shows the hour-by-hour progress of Storm Amy, which is set to bring gale-force gusts of up to 95mph winds to British shores.

Several weather warnings have been issued ahead of the"rapidly" developing storm, which is expected to make landfall on Friday, October 3. Affected areas in northern and western regions have been warned to prepare themselves for the ensuing chaos, with "injuries and danger to life" understood to be possible, alongside widespread disruption.

The ferocity of Storm Amy is illustrated in this alarming forecast tracker, which sees parts of the UK glow red as fierce winds take hold, with wild gusts of 95mph predicted in some parts of Scotland. As seen here, "exposed coasts and hills" will see particularly powerful gusts.

This tracker, by weather forecasting platform Ventusky, gives Brits an idea of what to prepare for ahead of what looks to be a challenging weekend, with affected areas expected to feel the impact right up until Sunday, when, thankfully, the gusts are expected to become milder as the day progresses.

Weather warnings are now in place for Scotland, northwest England and north Wales, where residents have been urged to prepare for the following:

• Some damage to buildings, including tiles blown from roofs.
• Power cuts, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
• Possible injuries and danger to life from flying debris.
• Injuries and danger to life from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties.
• Closure of some roads and bridges.
• Impacted road, rail, air and ferry services, with longer journey times and possible cancellations.

Meanwhile, from midday up until midnight on Friday, a yellow warning for rainfall is in place, with the Met Office stating: "Heavy rain may lead to transport disruption and flooding." It continues: "Band of heavy rain associated with Storm Amy will cross Scotland through Friday afternoon and evening.

"20-30mm of rain is expected widely in a 6-9 hour period, with 40-50mm over some hilly areas in the Southwest and the Southern Highlands. The rain will be accompanied by very strong winds, which will add to the very poor driving conditions."

Practical safety advice has also been issued, with citizens being warned that "injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible", with "large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts" also posing a potentially deadly threat.

According to the Met Office: "Prepare to protect your property and people from injury. Check for loose items outside your home and plan how you could secure them. Items include: bins, garden furniture, trampolines, tents, sheds, and fences."

The advice continued: "If you are on the coast, stay safe during stormy weather by being aware of large waves. Even from the shore, large breaking waves can sweep you off your feet and out to sea. Take care if walking near cliffs; know your route and keep dogs on a lead. In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

"Be prepared for weather warnings to change quickly. When a weather warning is issued, the Met Office recommends staying up to date with the weather forecast in your area."
