Hollywood icon Jim Mitchum, who was the son of Robert Mitchum, has died at the age of 84 after finding fame in Thunder Road. He co-starred alongside his Oscar-nominated father in the 1958 moonshine drama, along with landing roles in classic war flicks like In Harm's Way and Ambush Bay.
He died on September 20th at his home in Skull Valley, Arizona, a family spokesperson confirmed. His death came after a "long illness". Jim is survived by his children Will, Brian, Ana and Caitlin Ann, along with his brother and his step-daughter. He is also survived by his third wife Pamela K. Smith.
He leaves behind his sister Petrine and his grandchildren Jack, Wagner, Paige and Winnry. The family plan to host a private celebration of his life.
Tributes have been flooding in for the late actor, with one fan writing on social media: "Oh my. He was a clone of his father. God love ya."
Someone else echoed: "RIP James Mitchum, [who starred] with his dad in Thunder Road (1958). Sincere condolences to the Mitchum family."
Mitchum was married three times, first to late actress Wende Wagner in 1968. He later tied the knot with Vivian Ferrand in 1985 before they divorced a decade later.
Jim's father Robert died in 1997 at the age of 79, and Jim himself retired from acting to breed racehorses in Arizona. He also worked on developing a line of moonshine and whiskey as a tribute to his dad.
