A MP was left red-faced on 's as he was confronted by an outraged pensioner slamming the party's policies on . Prime minister has U-turned on the cuts to the WFA - but vulnerable people had to go without last winter. Victoria Derbyshire listened to Kevin as he explained he will never vote Labour again, before turning to MP Jeevun Sanher.
She said: "That was a Labour voter, and he's not any more, despite what's been announced today." Jeevun was immediately on the defensive as he replied: "Well look, there are people who choose not to vote for us the next election, for me the biggest focus is-"
Despite Victoria trying to probe him with another question, he forged ahead: "No, no I take the point, right, I'm completely listening to what you're saying, I'm saying at the next election what we're going to be judged on is are we making people better off? Obviously talked about the Winter Fuel Allowance-"
Victoria successfully cut the politician off to say: "Not according to Kevin. You're disregarding what he's just said. It almost doesn't matter what you do now, he's already made his decision - he is so disappointed."
Sanher said: "And that's true for Kevin, right? And there'll be other voters in this country who may choose to vote for us in the next election. I would say I want everyone to be better off at the next election, irrespectable [sic] of whether they choose to vote for us or not.
"But alongside, of course, the Winter Fuel Allowance, the state pension going up by £400 this April but £1700 by the end of this Parliament, 300,000- there's 300,000 homes being insulated, we'll get clean energy, there's a huge amount we are doing on the cost of living but fundamentally that's what we're going to be judged on, will we be better off at the next election-"
Victoria only said: "Well we'll see. Let's see." Viewers were quick to brand the segment "humiliating" for the MP, with one tweeting: "Humiliating for Jeevun Sanher on Newsnight after a pensioner who lost his Winter Fuel Allowance says he won't be voting Labour again."
But another argued: "Oh please. Who the hell is a pensioner, other than Labour, going to vote for who could run an economy and the same time has any intention of reinstating his fuel allowance and be able to pay for it?"
