Agartala: Indian Railways has introduced a new weekly Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) service connecting Agartala to Ludhiana via Guwahati and Delhi, aimed at enhancing trade connections in the northeast.
The service benefits states including Manipur, Mizoram and south Assam's districts, allowing them to transport goods to north Indian markets through Agartala and Guwahati. AVG Logistics has obtained a 6-year contract to operate four monthly trips, projecting revenue of Rs 198 crore. The inaugural train departed from Agartala on Sunday with a 364-tonne capacity, scheduled to increase to 484 tonnes after six months based on cargo volume.
The initiative aims to enhance transport, promote environment friendly logistics and strengthen financial capabilities. The PCET route includes commercial stops at Guwahati and Delhi for loading and unloading operations.
"The cargo train will carry tea, bamboo, plastic granules, mosquito repellent, a few FMCG, and hair oil from Agartala to Ludhiana while it will bring FMCG, cycles, hosiery, electronics, white goods, shoes, consumable items, raw materials, and sanitary items from Ludhiana-Delhi-Guwahati- Agartala," an official said.
