Surveen Chawla opens up about how she talks openly and honestly with her young daughter about periods, breaking taboos by using simple, correct terms from the very beginning. Alongside her parenting insights, catch up on her latest role in the gripping Criminal Justice Season 4.
Age-Appropriate Conversations on Periods
In a recent interview with Hauterrfly, Surveen revealed that her daughter understands sanitary pads and periods in an age-appropriate way. She recalled how her daughter once walked into the bathroom, opened a drawer, and found a packet of sanitary pads.
When her daughter asked about the sanitary pads, the actress gave a simple explanation. She told her that women release “toxic blood” from their bodies once a month, and the sanitary pad works like an adult diaper to keep them clean.
Normalizing Period Talks Early
Chawla further said that when she feels uncomfortable during her period, she tells her daughter and asks for some space. She also started teaching her about periods when she was just three years old, believing that the first way a child learns about it leaves a lasting impact, so it’s important to make these talks normal early on. She added that her daughter knows the word "vagina" because that’s the term she has always used with her.
On the work front, Surveen Chawla was recently seen in Criminal Justice Season 4, starring Pankaj Tripathi as the sharp, unconventional lawyer Madhav Mishra. This season revolves around a gripping murder case involving two main accused and a complex family drama. The cast also includes Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Asha Negi, Barkha Singh, Shweta Basu Prasad, and Khushboo Atree.
