Chennai Super Kings have been dealt another blow in their underwhelming IPL 2025 campaign as wicket keeper Vansh Bedi has been officially ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. The franchise confirmed the news on Monday, announcing Urvil Patel as Bedi’s replacement for the rest of the season.
Bedi, who impressed in the domestic circuit and was touted as one of CSK's breakout prospects this season, sustained an injury earlier in the campaign and failed to recover in time. His absence will be a setback for a CSK side that has already been eliminated from playoff contention, a rare occurrence for the five-time champions.

Urvil Patel, a dynamic wicketkeeper-batter from Gujarat, joins the Super Kings after strong performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the 2024–25 domestic season. Known for his aggressive top-order batting and tidy glovework, Urvil will look to make the most of this late-season opportunity, especially with CSK expected to give younger players a chance as they shift focus to future rebuilding.
Quiz: Who's that IPL player?
While CSK’s hopes for IPL 2025 are all but over, the addition of Urvil Patel could offer a glimpse into the next generation of Super Kings talent. With senior players like MS Dhoni nearing the end of their careers, the team’s strategy moving forward may hinge on nurturing youthful talent such as Patel.
Earlier TOI has reported that Urvil Patel India's fastest T20 centurion Urvil Patel is among the three players who recently participated in mid-season trial conducted by Chennai Super Kings.
