NEW DELHI: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in the Tangmarg area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district, local media reported.
An official said that security forces cordoned off Tangmarg after receiving specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area.
The encounter comes a day after 28 people, mainly tourists, were killed in a terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley area of Pahalgam, located in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The 26 dead included two foreigners and two locals, a high ranking official said without getting into details.
One Indian Navy officer, lieutenant Vinay Narwal (aged 26 years), who was posted in Kochi, was among killed in the Pahalgam attack while he was on leave. He was a native of Haryana and got married on 16 April, said defence officials.
