JAMMU: Union minister Jitendra Singh Friday visited flood-affected villages along the international border in Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu and Kashmir, assessed the damage to crops and property, distributed relief material, and assured the affected people of early compensation.
He also handed over domestic water-purifying units in the flooded areas to prevent water-borne diseases. Singh highlighted govt efforts, saying nano-technology-based mechanisms worth Rs 50 lakh had been deployed to aid border residents.
Singh praised BSF for reaching out to the affected people before the local administration began rescue and relief operations.
On the same day, J&K assembly opposition leader Sunil Sharma visited Ramban district’s Rajgarh tehsil, where five people died in a recent cloudburst, and assured the bereaved families of relief and rehabilitation. “Under SDRF norms, immediate assistance will be extended, and new houses will be sanctioned for the two affected families of Gadigarm,” Sharma said.
He also announced that Rs 10 lakh would be released from Constituency Development Fund to support the victims.
