Himachal Pradesh Braces for Unsettled Weather Through May 7Shimla, May 1 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a week-long weather warning for Himachal Pradesh, predicting rain, thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning activity across the state. A yellow alert has been declared from May 1 to May 7, prompting authorities to advise caution, especially in higher altitude areas and farming regions.
Gusty Winds, Rain, and Thunderstorms ExpectedAccording to the IMD, winds of 30–40 km/h are likely to sweep across parts of the state on May 1, increasing to 40–50 km/h between May 2 and May 6. On May 7, similar wind speeds are forecast again. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and stay in secure shelters, particularly in vulnerable hilly areas.
Heavy Rain and Light Snowfall Forecast for May 5–6On May 5 and 6, heavy rainfall is likely in several districts, especially affecting mid and high-altitude regions. The IMD has also predicted light snowfall in elevated areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, and Kullu districts. This could impact local travel, agriculture, and electricity supply.
